A PhotographA Poem by GypsyReflections of childhoodA Photograph
Sorting through these faded
photographs Etched with flaws and wrinkled
by time The candid expressions of
familiar faces The childhood friends we
fondly remember The schools and parks where
we used to play Riding our bicycles with
banana seats
The backyard sprinklers and slip
n’ slides Eating a burger at the
neighbors backyard barbecue Eating frozen delights from
the ice cream truck Doing homework Watching Rifleman after
school
Dad’s family station wagon That took us on those boring road
trips To visit those relatives we
rarely saw And barely knew But had to hug them anyways
The cute guy you adored from
a distance But never really knew Or the cheerleader you
admired She was always happy And so perfectly pretty
The wanderlust looks, the
giant laughs The football team, hyped up
and ready to play
All these photographs Take me back in time To a feeling of innocence Of being young and invincible Perfect and carefree Fresh and new In a world we didn’t yet know
I was that kid in the photo And you were there too What fun we had Doing much of nothing
As my thoughts drift from old
to new From the past to the present Of the quiet days The boring days The rainy days And the idle time we just
played at the park I wonder How did the years pass by so
quickly?
No, these are not just old Tattered photographs They tell the story of our
lives Oh how we lived…
They are my history They are your history too They tell the whole story In its’ vivid, colorful, detail…
