I remember when in middle school we learned

I remember when in middle school we learned about some animal’s inner systems, I remember the thrill I felt when I cut the frog’s stomach, and my teacher’s congratulations when she passed by: “the perfect cut” she had said “You could be a doctor”. I remember I felt proud about it at the time, this was the thought that rushed through my mind, then a series of other significant moments came back: when I graduated, my medical degree, getting married to the most wonderful man in the world, my little Johanne… but still… nothing felt like this. Nothing could ever be compared to the proud feeling rushing through my chest as I made the first incision into this new specimen. This alien.
