In the Heat of the NightA Poem by Kayla AmaroPondering the things that happen in the middle of the nightMany things happen in the heat of the night for night is as lively as day, and thought she is not as loud or as bright she is frisky, bold, and risqué. Yes, she has this vivacious side, but she is also tranquil and hushed. Many people feel that they can confide in her warmth and delicate touch. A mother awakes to her baby's cries, carries it gently in her arms. It feeds from her breast and closes its eyes feeling completely safe from harm. A little girl who is scared of the dark rushes to her father's side. With her in his embrace he begins to rock and sing her a lullaby. Young lovers run together without looking back Accompanied by the stars above. In between sheets of time they lose track and pledge their undying love. A young woman, maybe twenty of age, dances the night away feeling free from her hurt, from anxiety's cage with hope that she'll live another day. A husband awakens to stare at his wife wondering when they had all begun. The lies, the deceiving, that caused him such strife Knowing he wasn't the only one. An elderly man, not able to sleep picks up his bow and violin. While he plays his tune he begins to weep from regretting all of his sins. And I rub my eyes, stretch, and sit upright, To look at the pale moonlight and take out my notebook and pen to write what happens in the heat of the night...
