Time Machine

Time Machine

A Poem by Kasaundra
"

Trip back to the 1990's

"

Let’s take a ride to our past

A time machine ride back to the 90’s.

When our biggest problem was reaching the top shelf.

Back to a time where the beeping of a Tomagotchi got you no recess.

When most suspenseful thing on TV was the shrine of the silver monkey.

And back when it was all right to salute your shorts.

A time where you owned POGS but didn’t know how to play.

When the streetlight would be the clock to tell you when to run home

instead of your mother calling you on some “smart” phone.

Back, back in the day where corduroy overalls were cool.

When we used VHS, cassettes, and floppy disks.

And our favorite computer game was Put-Put or Pajama Sam.

Carrying around your Walkman with a skipping NSYNC CD

Or way, way back to when the Rugrats were not “All Grown Up.”

And the Littlest Pet Shop toys didn’t have giant, overgrown bobble heads.

Back when girls used to slap on bracelets and wear tacky mood rings

Then pretended they were a Spice Girl, usually fighting over who was Baby Spice.

A decade where all the boys had the same haircut and when middle part was still OK.

After Super Nintendo was “obsolete.”

Back when the best gaming system was the Nintendo 64.

Or possibly the PlayStation.

A time where school supplies for girls were Lisa Frank brand.

Back when we’d sniff Mr. Sketch Markers and it wasn’t for a high.

And Clarissa would explain it all as Sam climbed in through her window.

Want to take a trip back to the 90’s and maybe get a pair of jelly sandals?

How about we just go and look for that guy, Waldo?

Let’s just go back to the 90’s when life was just so simple.
