Unseen Routine

Unseen Routine

A Poem by Kitten

You look at me,

I pretend to be who you think I am,

Mostly for your satisfaction alone,

When something appears off,

Though ironically I am not really who you think,

You began to question if something is wrong,

Something is,

I’m always wrong,

When I am melancholic and sad,

You only become frustrated,

Ignore me when I need you most,

My tears no longer pierce your heart,

It only makes me cry more,

Returning to my secluded place,

Forced to heal on my own,

Whispering encouraging words,

I only wish someone would share with me,

Here I am again,

Fake smile plastered across my face,

A personality stitched together,

Hoping I won’t ever make the mistake

Of wearing my heart on my sleeve again,

But in hope of sweeter change,

I repeat this cycle again.

This is exactly how the heart speaks. When words can't be used when talking to someone, those of us who write, take our thoughts to the paper. In hopes that if our true feelings cannot be understood by another human being then maybe they will understand and see the full picture when they read about out. That is if they will read about it. Your piece is very relatable. I think that most of us, if not then all of us, in this writers community, who write poetry on a near daily or weekly basis have experienced what you wrote in this piece. Keep up the good work.

Ugh, this is heart wrenching but relatable. Too often we hide behind a smile.
Hoping for someone to hear us. To give comfort and encouragement.
