Ashes

Ashes

A Poem by Vanessa Pavelock

daring fingers

venture into

the wild fire

tracing the

contour of

each flame

tickling the

stomach of

midnight passion

you pull away

just in the

brink of time

black smoke

rises into the

open sky

as blue burnt

flesh pours down

like confetti

Beautiful. I love the imagery which in additon to being vivid and well crafted leaves open a few different interpretations. Is pulling away "just in the brink of time" leading to ashes of a doomed romance or are the ashes those of the partially burnt prior to the total incineration? For me a poem that leaves open multiple levels of interpretation is always better. Thank you for sharing this.
