day 14 - sheffield

day 14 - sheffield

A Poem by valerie
"

inspired by everything terrible that's happened in april up to date.

"
april, your casualties are endless

the titanic's maiden voyage turned out to be its fateful farewell
the ninety-six at hillsborough squeezed between gated palms
the final breaths of my grandparents as their lives skidded to a halt
while i sat in a desk when i was twelve years old
praying for just one more day, one more day, one more day

may, your flowers will grow to be miracles after this downpour

okay, i need a lot of help with this one. i love the first and last lines, but not the middle so much. i don't feel like it sufficiently expresses the horrible things that happen in april and yet i feel like if i cut it out it will lose any of its...authenticity? i don't know. i also am not entirely comfortable with my line for the 96 because i obviously was not there and i don't want to offend anyone who was involved somehow by either downplaying or overreacting to it. so any and all constructive crit would be SO great. thanks so much :)
