i shouldn't be writing this

i love you:
your pale shoulders
and too-round eyes,
the constellation upon your cheek
and the sand dusting the top of your head.

i love you:
quietly, an echo of a whisper
a gentle lullaby to a baby already dreaming
like the light you still see in pure darkness,
the green in the freckles of your eye.

i love you:
in ways that make my heart fear
like when one temporarily misplaces
something sentimental, but finds it again
after a few panicked moments.

i love you:
plainly and simply put,
i love you.
