tornadoes

A Poem by valerie
"

the title has (seemingly) no relevance. read between the lines.

"
it's like wearing a bell around your ankle. not so others
know you're there, but to know where you are. you're
lost.
lost, lost, losing it. i'm losing
direction, i'm a compass that doesn't work anymore.
we were a sailboat and you were the anchor, but without you, well,
the wind hasn't been kind to me lately. i'm
visiting a town i used to live in and
its name is "longing"
but the house i grew up in was torn down years ago. it's like
losing the necklace my grandma gave me before she died
& forgetting what she looked like, all at the same time.
it's like my chest is a dartboard
and your eyelashes are thumbtacks.
it's like the coin you toss over your shoulder
into a wishing well, never to be seen again.
it is going to rain on my birthday this year.
