I laugh but my mind is going
A hundred miles a minute.
Thoughts in and out and quick.
You're reading in my ear
And I'm smiling. First time
Today. Stale smoke is in
The air and I'm cold again.
Time for the warmth a
Blanket provides. You're
A soothing smile, always
There when I feel like
I'm spinning out of
Control. You read of
The sea and I wish
We were there, feet in
The sand and sun on
Our backs. You tell me
About farm life and I
Want my hands in soil,
Strawberries in my pocket,
And Congo by my side.
There's nothing as beautiful
And sure as a friend who
Understands a sigh. I owe
You more words than I
Give but I know you get it.
My words are meant for
Paper and hardly tolerate
The air, however warm and
Inviting it is.
