Brown

Brown

A Poem by Valeria P.

Brown is a color that is great in my family.

Brown hair, brown eyes, brown skin.

All different shades of brown too.

Brown that looks like melted milk chocolate, all smooth and lustrous to the beholder’s eye.

Brown that looks like Grand Canyon rocks, bright in the day and dark in the night.

From my great grandfather’s mocha skin to my caramel skin.

These are the colors I hold within.

Brown is in me from head to toe.

It is what I’m made up, it is what I know.

The brown in my sister’s eyes glistens as the sun’s rays illuminates them turning them from brown to beauty.

My brown hair that look black when water has made its own and returns to brown, when the water says, “farewell”.

Brown hair, brown skin, brown eyes.

The part of me that makes me I.
