The Worst GardenA Story by The Valerian LegionWritten May 17, 1997. I was very young so it will sound as such.
The worst garden I ever saw is in my backyard. The grapes weave in and out. Butterflies flutter all round the yard but not in the garden. You know that the gophers really enjoy the garden out back. The fig tree dad planted three years ago is the same size. I have discovered that tomato plants grew everywhere.
In examination of the garden, in our backyard, proved that it was probably the worse garden I have ever seen! Only the gophers like it there! I did discover that my bunny rather likes it. The mice in the field scurry through quickly. Even they are afraid! There is a pole with a pennon on it. It does not do much for the lavender rose, dying in the corner. I guess L.A. really does sit on a desert because the cactus in my yard does well. The lizards camouflage themselves and the peaches on the tree beckon on the fence to the nursery workers next door, to eat them. There pixis grew good on the back and the runnel runs through the nursery not through the yard. I did a randsome note in a bottle. It reads, "ksie fuids jbubis acckk ume naught eee shris shroom desi une sqol des trek sume nai. Ack kree kree nau ess lume lot tres. Sic ness leet shro uek darke leet trey cies sie." I wish I coudl read it. But mom says, that I wrote it on the IBM and should try to remember what I wrote! The very best time I had was when I found a topaz ring in the backyard. A gold mine in our yard! The dictionary says that they are crystals and only grow in mines! Well I guess it could not be a whole ring without help. Miss Robins taught Geology in third grade. I spent that whole summer digging in the yard. I found a lot of rocks, tons of one that could be made into jewelry. But Dad told me they were his, he had a tumbler and made jewelry when he was younger. I guess my backyard garden is about the worst. We ll at least there are only forty or so gopher holes. Mom has raspberry's growing but Dad cut them off. So she started them again but they look shriveled up! The zucchini grows good but looks scary. If you leave them alone for long they weigh at about 3 pounds. Aunt Virgina says, "that they can be stuffed, baked". There is a crow back there, he only yells a lot. I guess it is about the worst garden around. There is one that's worse, there is so much stuff you can not see the ground. Its around the corner from my the house, but I guess they never throw anything away. At least the grass grows here in ours. So I know that ours has a little redeeming value. The best is Huntington Library Garden, and its fun to have tea there. One last thing about the backyard there is a dwarf lemon tree there that has lots of lemons but its lopsided because a big tree fell on it. But one good thought is that the tree missed the house! © 2011 The Valerian LegionAuthor's Note
