What if aliens kept us in this planet like how we keep small pets in their habitats or cats indoors. In order to shelter them, make sure they dont get hurt lost and are able to have food and water. Some semblance of independence. And all we have to do is find the door and escape to see and realize that there is more out there beyond what we are able to see at this moment in time. An example of this is an ant farm, they create their habitat and dont know that there is something else out there. Their confined space is all they know and were their aliens.
