Merely a Shell

Merely a Shell

A Poem by Raimundo
"

Inspired by my close encounter with a wiffle ball to the eye.

"

A bright burst of light
Colors flash all around
A natural reflex to prevent further harm
Your self is shut down
Can't open your eyes
Feeling completely alone
Like you're the sole inhabitant of this world
Trapped in a black abyss
Your own world of darkness

Your consciousness falling deep inside yourself
Far away from all external stimuli
Others around you call for your name
But you are far away from this world
A metaphorical turtle, buried in its shell

All things around you mean nothing at all
Your fear isolates you
For all you know you're all by yourself
You're all that matters
Just shut everything out

You personality soon submerges deep within your soul
To a place unaccessible
Your heart becomes cold
Shutting out some of the bad things is fine
But what of the things that are not malign

Your human compassion is falling inside
Save it for yourself inside your shell
Soon enough its light will go out
And your shell you shall become
