a short side-story.

‘It's really coming down, isn’t it?’ Emrys muses from his cushion seat on the bay window sill, fingers fumbling to break yet another fortune cookie, crumpled papers strewn and scattered around him on the floor. A similar image pops up in Albus's mind, with a younger Emrys sitting in the middle of talismans and amulets instead of silly fortune papers. 

‘It's been pouring since this morning,’ he replies, hands pressed against cool glass, peering through the gushing waterfalls of rain. ‘I can't see past the garden.’ 

‘Isn't Vel coming today?’

‘He called. He’ll come by tomorrow.’

Emrys hums, and holds out an unbroken treat. ‘Want one?’

‘Sure.’ He turns from the glass to take it, and cracks it open with one hand. ‘The day only gets better,’ he mumbles, and pops the cookie into his mouth. ‘What a joke. The forecast said it’ll be raining non stop till tomorrow morning.’

‘And since when was the forecast right?’

He blinks. ‘You have a point.’

Emrys smiles as he reads his own one out. ‘Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.’

An eyebrow raises, and Albus finds himself reaching into the plastic bag for another one. ‘Take a rest; you deserve it.’ Emrys laughs, and he sits down next to him with a grunt.

‘Not funny.’

Ignoring him, and with eyes twinkling with mirth, Emrys opens another one and snorts. ‘Love lights up your world.’

With a sardonic smile, he continues to read. ‘Open up your heart �" it can always be closed again.’

‘Don’t believe in miracles, rely on them.’

In no time, they're both laughing their lungs out, stormy weather forgotten and worries put aside.
