Winter

Winter

A Story by Mriss Torres

We were both sitting out on the balcony with our hands intertwined.
The coldness of your fingers spread throughout mine, leaving a numbness feeling when you let go.

I watched you in awe as you looked over the terrace.
You had that look in your eye.
The one I had fallen in love with years ago.

But somewhere between love and hate,
You slipped out the back for a escape.

You couldn't explain.
You didn't have to.
I knew.
It was written on the walls of your vacant heart,
and I don't blame you.

So the year after,
When I was sitting out on the balcony by myself with my freezing hands searching for the comfort you once gave in a useless, thin sweater;
I looked over the terrace and wondered if you have found your home.

This numb feeling you left me with that night never went away.
