Material Things

Material Things

A Poem by KC

Insisting for the hundredth time

"Shhh, keep going, I'm fine,"

Oh, fast times, and faster crimes

Both of us dressed to the nines

Dragging you behind me

By heartstrings and a crumpled tie

Sneaking away, trying to be silent

Our designer pockets heavy with

Stolen nickels and dimes

"Shhh, keep moving, I'm fine."

We divided the treasure evenly

Ten bucks for you and eleven for me

Delighting in crafty minds and craftier schemes

Me and you, and the extent of my greed

Stretching beyond your body

To covet material things

And how we made such a formidable team
