Rest In Peace

Rest In Peace

A Poem by KC

I don't know why he did it
And I don't know why you care
I can't see how you want him now
When all you did was stare
He's different, life's been punishing
And you were deathly scared
That you'd catch what he surely had
That thing that makes him weird
The bug that lives inside us all
That eats away at skin
Gnaws at organs, flesh, and bone
Devours from within
It held him close and whispered thoughts
Of deeds done with shameless pride
Soon he began, to see the plan
It’s now his turn to ride
His eyes grew dull, his limbs fatigue
And more than once he paused
To think of what the price should be
For all the pain he’s caused
I bet he never thought of that
How rich and pure love flows
Never stopped to think of all of us
Who’ll miss him when he goes
For surely now he’s got to leave,
His fatal deed’s been dealt
Those sixteen years of adult fears
And pain he’s more than felt
The scars run deep, the wounds still fresh
The blows split mind and heart
For each one wrought it’s tell-tale mark
Tearing him apart
It didn’t have to end this way
We’d never have to cry
And wish once more it’s all a dream
We’d never have to try
You never thought we’d care this much
And you can’t say we don’t
You’re always loved for all of time
Even when you seem alone…
And alone is what you should be
But no one will forget
The way you laughed, and loved us all
And your last, sad regret
