Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Suspended From Show by A&E after Voicing His Opinion on HomosexualityA Story by Tiffany SA recent posting of mine regarding Phil Robertson's suspension. I realize that this has already been resolved, however, here is what went through my mind at the time.In case some of you were unaware, Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty
was recently suspended from any future episodes of the show by A&E. Why? Well, he simply exercised his first amendment rights by
voicing his opinion on the legalization of gay marriage in a recent interview
with GQ magazine. Given that the A&E network is a huge supporter, they in
turn suspended him from the show. What’s wrong with this picture? Several things. Firstly, GQ blatantly asked him about his views on
homosexuality. If that wasn’t uncalled for, I don’t know what would have been.
They were purposely trying to get a rise out of him, as anyone who has seen
even one episode of Duck Dynasty knows that the family is Christian. He was simply responding to the question with honesty when he
said, “It seems like, to me, a vagina"as a man"would be more desirable than a
man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got
more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin:
It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.” He went on to quote Scripture, where it states, “‘don’t be
deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the
homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers
" they won’t inherit the Kingdom of God.’ Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not
right.” Following his remarks, gay rights groups such as GLAAD and much
of the LGBTQ community lashed out, many Christians remained silent, paralyzed
with fear about what the media would think if they were to dare speak out (as
usual), and the Left didn’t know what to do. Here was a conservative man who
wasn’t afraid to speak the truth, uncensored and completely unfazed by their
agenda of political correctness. A&E then felt the need to respond by stating “We are
extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are
based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series ‘Duck
Dynasty.’ His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who
have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.” Here’s my question: Who cares? That’s the
point. They’re HIS views. Since when are all reality stars required to agree
with their networks on every possible issue? We live in a free country where
that kind of thing is allowed, and the fact that you felt the need to suspend
him for disagreeing with you fully illustrates the fact that your network
believes that those with opposing opinions shouldn’t have the right to free
speech. Though many have been claiming that as a private TV channel A&E has
said right, how does that make sense? They’re punishing Robertson for
expressing his opinion. What they’ve done may be not illegal, but it is nevertheless
unconstitutional. Funny how the media feels they have the right to trash him as
much as they’d like, yet he has no right to dare speak a word of disagreement. Liberalism and groupthink tend to go hand in
hand, as almost anyone can see. They’re free to proclaim whatever they feel is
right and get nothing but good press for doing so, including the prenatal
murder of infants, yet when one conservative dares to break the silence of the
cowardly RINOs, they’re attacked relentlessly. Dissent is frowned upon to the
point that some Democrats (*cough* Cynthia Chase) have proposed that the first
amendment rights of conservatives and libertarians be limited. I’m going to come out and say that I agree
with him. Too many Christians and conservatives are silent on the issue, and
it’s about time someone spoke up. Sure, maybe he could have gone about
expressing his opinion in a more articulate manner, but he nevertheless speaks
the truth amidst a world of lies and I commend him for it. Our Founding Fathers envisioned a free nation
where one could have the right to free speech, meaning that the federal
government or the press has no right to keep them from doing so by any means.
With the overwhelming media bias, this principle has been trod upon and nearly
forgotten. As conservatives who are unafraid and proud to
be Americans, it is our duty to speak the truth, no matter how unpopular our
opinions may be. As Christians, we are called by God to do the same. Scripture
tells us specifically that we will indeed face trials and persecution for
standing for Christ, and we must nevertheless continue to do so. © 2014 Tiffany S |
