The Night Alive

The Night Alive

A Poem by Toni Nicole

Naive in resorts,
she’s draped with cynical retorts
Invasion and infectious play
Those unwelcomed shall not stay

No price too high for such a lie
One last kiss, here, again, goodbye
A heart embraced in malicious greed
Nothing cures this hunger, nor need

The dawn we meet tonight
And in darkness all turns bright
In this absence of disease
The gods bring us to our knees

Here without her, just this day
Far you’ve run, we pray to stay.
