![]() The DreamA Chapter by Bored.of.Education
Matthew woke up suddenly, terrified. He was breathing heavily after that awful nightmare. It was the strangest one he had ever had. It involved aliens. He knew he shouldn't have watched that movie last night. He remembered seeing a little girl in his dream, and the look in her eyes still sent shivers up his spine. It had felt so real. Matthew got up and went downstairs to the kitchen to get a glass of water. It was very quiet. He could hear crickets chirping outside on his lawn. He loved days like these; those days where you felt anything could happen. Matthew always wanted to be in an adventure. But his life was boring. He didn't know how to explain it, but he always wanted to live in a world of fantasy, like in the books he read. He wished for once that he could go out and save the world from a typical villain bent on wreaking havok on everything. Matthew drank his water, but he didn't go back upstairs. He felt exactly how whenever someone had a bad dream and was fully awakened, still feeling like they're in a dream. So, he decided to go outside and get some air. It was a beautiful night, a little cool, but wonderful nevertheless. His bare feet felt good on the fresh grass. He looked up at the stars and saw a constellation. It was the Big Dipper. He counted the stars. Seven in all. He had to remember that. After a while of just standing there looking at the peaceful and quiet neighborhood, he decided to go in. He was about to go in when he noticed something unusual. He couldn't believe he hadn't noticed it before. The crickets were chirping in unison. It was a strange melody, one so different and bizarre that Matthew wondered if there was such a thing as fantasy at all. He was still in awe of the strange event when someone tapped him on the back. Startled, he swiveled around, ready to defend himself. It was only a girl. She was so small he wondered if she was an elf. "You're wondering about the crickets, aren't you?" she asked him, somehow reading his mind. The crickets were still playing the strange song. "Yeah. How did you...?" he began. She ignored his question. "They like you." It was a strange reply. How could crickets like anyone? "Thats...that's crazy." "I'm serious," she said, shaking her head. "They play a song by reading your heart, and play how you're feeling." Matthew looked at her in shock. "Who are you?" She ignored his question again. "Never mind that. See you around." And she left, before Matthew could say anymore. Matthew wondered how he was feeling. He was feeling unhappy, but calm. It was a wonderful song. He had to learn it on the guitar he played. He wondered who that girl was. He had never seen her before. She probably didn't belong anywhere, judging by her clothes and appearance. He wished he could see her again. But good things never last. ________________________
"Where were you?" Mina ignored him. Kilos really hated that about her. It seemed like she ignored everything important. Mina started humming. She took out a book from the bookshelf and flipped through it's pages. She threw it behind her, bored. "Books are boring, aren't they? Don't they make you want to create your own?" she said to Kilos. "Mina, I'm serious. You can't let people know about you...have you been talking to those humans again?" he asked her seriously. Mina giggled. "Oh pooh. You're no fun." she laughed even more. When he stayed quiet, obviously fuming, Mina said: "I talked to a boy," she grinned. "I should've killed him, but I liked him. The crickets really liked him. They played a wonderful song and I helped them with it. But he didn't know." she said, smiling. Kilos sighed. "When will you ever learn? Humans don't like us, and it's much better of they don't know about us." Mina frowned. "How do you know they don't like us? They actually make books about us! We're loved by them." Mina said, trying to make a point. "What do you think they would do if they found out about us? They would mutilate us, and dissect us purely for science." he said, setting his hands firmly on a table. "Well, not everyone's like that..." Mina murmured. She sat down and crossed her legs. Kilos walked out of the small, dingy room. They lived in a cabin in the woods, isolated from everyone. He felt it was better that way. Whoever trespassed would be sorry. He wanted to keep Mina safe from harm. Mina jumped up. She had an idea. "Can we move to the city?" she asked. Rather, she nearly begged. "No." Kilos said simply. Mina pouted. "Oh, I hate it here! There aren't any people to play with. I'm sick of only playing with animals." Kilos ignored her whines. She was very immature for someone her age. Mina was 293 years old. Kilos was much younger than her. He was only 186. But creatures such as himself aged twice as fast as imps. Imps like Mina are actually young when they're around 200 years old. Mina took off her boots. She had on striped socks, and underneath them she wore a black torn pantyhose. Although Mina drove him nuts, Kilos was very fond of her clothing style. It was what you would call "Goth." Her dress was ripped, but it still looked great. Kilos didn't care what he wore, but lately he's been wanting to dress like Mina. Mina yawned. "What's for supper?" Kilos smiled in spite of himself. Did she not know what time it was? "Mina, it is midnight. You'd best go to sleep." "But I'm hungry!" she complained. "I haven't eaten in weeks!" "You're not supposed to eat everyday. It shortens your life span." he explained. "Ah, hell." she said, smiling. _______________________
What was the dream about again? Something about a girl and crickets? Or was that real? And then it hit him. He suddenly remembered. The girl from his nightmare and the girl from last night were one and the same. © 2008 Bored.of.Education |
