“Why the long face, kid?”

“What’s in your hand?” the boy asked.  “Behind your back?”

“Ain’t nothin’ to worry about.”

“Is that a knife?”

“I said, ain’t nothin’.  Just gonna fix that long face of yours.”

“Oh, God.  Please don’t do - “

“It’ll be over before you know it.  Hold still, kid.”

And when Mr. Giovanni Rossi dug the blade into Little Petey’s Jack-O-Lantern, he turned that crooked frown upside-down.

And the dark clouds parted and made way for the super happy sunshine.

And it was the best Halloween ever.
