The effort too great
See why the songbird sings?
Because it can share with the world its gift of natural beauty
But see why the flightless bird
Does not try to fly?
It knows its limitations and
Does not try to fail
So save your breath
Do not try to tell the bird it
Can fly. Nature has bestowed
Curdling fate upon its wings
Too heavy to carry, too burdensome to sing
So great an effort it would take
To convince the bird to flutter an eight
Therefore, realize you only remind
The flightless how helpless and sad
It is they can’t fly.
