I'm anything but an athlete, but I played soccer for one year in high school, and I think that one year had as much impact on me as 5 years of marching band did. Soccer was the first thing that made me feel like I could be a strong person, both physically and emotionally. When soccer had worked its magic in me, I went back to my musical friends and have never really looked back. I know that's not what you meant to say exactly in this poem, but that's what it expresses for me. I had forgotten just how much of my identity today I owe to that one year of soccer. Thank you for beautiful writing!

That's a nice poem, putting the importance of sport into perspective. Anyone who's taken part in sport seriously - cycling and running in my own case - know how all-consuming it can get!
I left it all behind too (apart from a bit to keep myself fit) and started concentrating on my writing (a sort of love), so I can relate to this.

It's not my best as poems go, but it more or less expresses my emotions.(: I haven't left the sport, I still love soccer-it's still a major part of my life. But the people and dreams I mentioned in here is what I felt when I returned from a mission trip to Haiti, where I saw God so clearly and real, alive and working in the people and lives of those in Haiti. Upon returning, it was so hard to focus on the things that I used to hold close to me. Some things I felt that I should stay with, but other things, I was questioning and praying about for a while. For now, I still feel that I should keep playing soccer, but in the future, perhaps God has plans for me back in Haiti.(: We'll see. However, if I could have walked off the field during that game and gone back to Haiti, I would have in a heartbeat.(:
