A Chapter by Calypso

July 25

Today in movie therapy we watched another Pixar movie. This place has a thing for Pixar movie. Tuesday we started Cars and today we’re finishing it up. Last Tuesday we watched Incredible for the second time. Eva was quick to point this out. She also said that she wasn’t a child and there were a few more things that were too obscene to write.

In the back of the room three girls were trying (unsuccessfully) to copy Mater’s voice. Others were sleeping. I’m not sure how watching a movie counts as therapy, but I’m not the one with a masters or doctorate in psychology.

After the movie was over we loudly filed into dinner. Their Janna made me made enough to spit fire.

She was sitting by Morgan trying to get her to finish her potatoes. Morgan looked thin and pale. She was wearing green camouflage. Morgan seemed to hide in the shell of the jacket.

Morgan caved soon and finished off her potatoes, but didn’t look too pleased all the while. I wouldn’t have caved, I think.

It was then that Janna did something made me angry, very angry.

            “You’re looking healthy.”

I wasn’t sure if she was talking to me so I turned around and I realized that no one was behind me, so she had to be talking to me.

“I’m glad you have been eating. You look great.”

I knew to Janna ‘Looking great’ was the same as being fat. My stomach sank and I was about to cry. I knew then that I should rebel more.

Her comment has stuck to me like gum sticks to hair.

I couldn’t help, but to grouch about it all day. During group therapy I made a way ward comment about people. Janna raised an eyebrow in suspicion, but never said anything. Eva has seemed in a haze after having to be sedated at dinner. Morgan never spoke and April coughed. That was the only real response I was given.

I tried to eat less at dinner, but Eva exploded again. This time she started crying, but didn’t speak. The counselors filled around her as they tried to guide the needle into her forearm. There were too many people around me for me to skip the meal.

I think there should be a better way to go about this than constantly sedating kids.

Telling someone with anorexia they look healthy or better is the same as telling them they area complete and utter failure. I don't blame her for wanting to eat less and less again after that.
