The Life They Once Knew

The Life They Once Knew

A Poem by unclecharlie

Never seeming to sleep in peace
At night the Demons are released
They try and tare at the flesh
Never wanting for us to rest
Reminding us of what used to be
Many years before we were set free
The life the was horror and pain
Never sun shine always rain
Places where no one was safe
Things many can not contemplate
Young people at their wits end
That life was great they would pretend
During the day all was well
But with the darkness came the hell
Not a thing was ever clear
Death was something that was near
So many times they have lied
Luck was if one survived
Stories that could never be told
If one wanted to grow old
A life that was a test
Never seen by the rest
No one knew what they'd see
All alone but not free
There was no place to hide
Not a soul on their side
For many years they'd forget
But now and then still be hit
There is always the deep fear
Of the life that wasn't clear
How can one debate
An end to this wicked fate
They could run but never hide
To forget they all tried
The vicious night mares may never stop
Memories they've all got
Of the life they once knew
When there was nothing that they could do!
