One Great Week

One Great Week

A Poem by unclecharlie

Once thought I lived in my own paradise
Now I must sit back and think twice
Spent a week in another land
Why I left just can't understand
It was like a life I once knew
Chilling on the farm alone with you
Even though nothing was crystal clear
What may happen next I didn't fear
There were no thoughts I needed to chase
I was in a happy place
Now I sit here all alone
Missing a place that felt like home
It's not just the place I miss
But the way she hugs and the kiss
Maybe the way she rubs my back
Or the great company I now lack
I have been down this road a time or two
But never missed anyone like I miss you
Like two friends from the past
Finally joined again at last
Like an empty hole in my heart
That started the minute that we'd part
Now not sure which way to go
But I miss you I am sure you know
It was the best week I ever had
Believe it proves life really isn't all that bad!

I like the way these lines describe absence, and the yearning to know what the future holds. Beautiful images--in a flowing rhyming scheme, too!--describe treasured memories. Been there myself! Thanks for sharing.
