What Once Was

A Poem I wrote to get over my ex

I love the way you say my name
and the way you crack my toes
I love the way you hold me tight
and the way you always know

I miss the things you said to me
and how you'd hold my hand
I miss our stupid fights
and making up as planned

I miss the way you smelled my hair
and the way you rubbed my back
I miss our sunday nights together
and when you you made me snacks

I loved the way you said my name
I loved the way you farted so loud
I loved the way you cared so much
even when you let me down

 But most of all
I miss the way you missed me
I miss the happy times
I miss the way we disagree

I hate the fact that youre not around
I Hate the way this had to fall
I hate that all I think about is you
and I hate that I dont hate you at all
I hate that you did this to me
and i hate that its in the past
I hate that I'm hurt so badly
I hate that it passed so fast

I really just want to tell you
I love you
I've loved you all along
It's with you is where I belong

I'm posting it to save not really for critiquing. Unless you have good relationship advice I'll take that

Simple language that conveys profound emotion. All those who have loved and lost should love this. Advice...you used hate 8 x's in this poem, miss 7, and love 6. With a gazillion people in the world, I think someone as talented as you can find love again.

relationship advice? I should since I've been married to my third wife for 36 years, but truly don't know enough from this writing. I will say that you focused on good things, happy moments, reasons to stay together, but never mentioned the reasons that you are not together. You would probably feel less pain and be able to find someone that is not gone from you life if you stepped back and look at the whole relationship. I should also say that all of the things that you mention as good things from the relationship are personal things that most any couple shares, but are none of the things that make a relationship last (except maybe the ability to make up after a fight).

Lasting things? giving each other space. encouraging each other to grow and growing together. persisting after all else seems lost.
I wish you all the luck and happiness. There may be someone else out there with more lasting attributes for you.
