My Wish

The wind prickles my skin which is already numb from the cold

Vapor fogs my half-shut eyes as I shallowly breathe out

My nose hurts every time I inhale bringing the cold air into my lungs as I feel a burning sensation

My feet were numb from stooping so long

I let out a long sigh of relief as I see you coming out of that warm building that I am not able to enter

Willing my frozen legs to stand up, I froze as I saw the both of you hugging together trying to keep each other warm

Smiling and laughing together as you put him in your car as I am here freezing trying to get your attention

I watch as you drive away with a smile on your face that I have not seen throughout the years we have been together

Warm tears flowed out of my eyes that immediately froze on my skin

I smiled thinking to myself that he is the only light you see in your life

I often wondered if I could also be your light, shining whenever the darkness tries to attack you

But it seems that I am the darkness, the shadow of your heart

I felt something crack deep inside as I watched your car drive further and further away from me.

Tears still slipping down my cheeks but are immediately frozen

When I am with you your heart seems to be frozen and unmoving, unattainable and unreachable

But how ironic when he's with you I can see your heart visibly melt like snow seeing the sun for the first time

I let out a deep sigh looking up to the dark sky and realizing that I am alone in this life and that I have to rely on myself in the future, so I hardened my heart, taking up the band-aids for the last time piecing together all the cracks on my heart

Ignoring the tears on my face and the curious look on my back I started walking without a destination, fiddling with the thin and cold ring on my finger as I slowly slipped it off

Bringing it up to my eyes I gave it a good look and laughed then placed it in my pocket

Thinking about it now I only saw you wearing it once and that was at our wedding but as soon as we went home you took it off and threw it in the drawer

I scoffed at myself and saw that I reached a whishing fountain, searching my pockets for any coins but the only thing I felt was my ring

Smiling I turned around holding the ring in my palms muttering to myself then threw the ring behind me turning around only when I heard it fall into the water

Continuing my journey I came across a rundown empty cafe, the bell rang above my head

Seeing no one at the counter I made my way to a booth looking out at the people going out and about on their business

Laying down for a while with eyes closed I heard someone walking towards me

Lifting my head to look at the person I saw that the person was very tall about 6'5 with a slightly bulky figure

Sitting in front of me, my eyes started to clear up to see him more clearly

Shocked I jumped up moving further away from you I asked "Why are you here?"

You looked at me without saying anything standing up abruptly and took me in your arms frightened I wrapped my arms around your neck looking at you in surprise

A faint frown appeared on your face and I immediately took back my arms trying to get down but with one look I stopped all movement and became obedient

You walked outside and stopped to give a person something and only then did I realize that he was the one who worked here, shivering I noticed that the streets were mostly deserted.

My brows furrowed when I saw your car feeling a sting come to my eyes, the driver came and opened the door and you put me in first then came inside after

Waddling to the other side of the car, I breathed a sigh of relief until I felt a warm hand clasp my cold arms from being in the cold so long and bringing me into a warm embrace.

Only then did it occur to me that I was trembling, I wanted to leave but you kept me firmly locked in your arms.

My eyes stung and soon felt tears running down my cheeks, your arm tightening around me until I fell asleep.

Waking up I found myself in bed and a pounding headache, trying to move my hand I also found that there was a needle stuck in there.

Confused for a minute I realized that I must have caught a fever from staying out in the cold.

The next thing I noticed was him sitting there just staring at me which almost sent me into cardiac arrest

Looking at him in confusion I noticed that he wasn't staring at me but rather my hand, looking down I saw that I wasn't wearing my ring. Confused for a couple of seconds I remember that I threw it in the fountain.

Looking back at the person in front of me realizing that he was now staring at my face until he asked "Where is your ring?"

I laughed and responded that I did not know. His face seemed to get a little darker as he grabbed a hold of me but still minding my hand that had the needle inserted and placed me in his lap.

Holding my chin in a tight grip he tilted my head up making me look into his eyes that were getting darker and darker, seemingly deep as the sea almost like wanting to devour me until he bent down and kissed me until I got light-headed.

I smiled after and said in a low voice " Let's divorce." His hand seemed to grip me tighter and he responded in a low voice "Not a chance in hell".

After that night I could not walk for the whole day and he stayed at home moving all his work into our room seemingly worried that I might disappear.

Having enough of his staring I asked "Who was that man yesterday? Who you got in the car with?"

He raised his brows and responded "My brother" I froze my head snapping to his in astonishment and confusion " You have a brother?"

Nodding he closed his computer and leisurely cleaned up in table full of documents and files " How didn't I know that you had a brother?"

Looking at me, he got up slowly, walking towards me with my eyes following him as he responded "He was kidnapped when he was a child, and when we found him he was almost dead but he recovered slowly with our persistent treatment and now he's back. In fact I took him here yesterday to meet you but I came to an empty house."

I turned my head away from him my cheeks slowly turning red from embarrassment until he clenched my chin and gave me a deep kiss then coldly whispered in my ear

"Do something as stupid as that again and I will break your legs and lock you up in this room with your neck chained, and don't even think about divorcing me." As he held me and ripped off the sheets and went for another round making sure that I couldn't walk after this.

It seemed as though my wish came through although it's quite unbelievable I thought as I felt something cold being pushed on my finger. Looking down I heard him say in my ear "Don't lose it again."
