Lies in Passing

Lies in Passing

A Poem by KeelyJane

Hey, how ya doin'?
What's up?
How ya been?

What's new?
What's  good?
What's happenin'?

Could things be better?
Are you good?
Can't complain?

Better than ever?
So-so?
Same ol' same?

I'm great.
Not too much.
I've been doing just fine.

Nothin' new but the day.
Livin' Life.
Killin' time.

We assume no one cares
so we answer as expected.
Courteous questions
leave the truth neglected.

Lies in passing.
Not caring, just askin'.

I like the flavor that reality leaves on my tongue as I salivate to your truisms in your Lies in Passing!
I tend to remain fleeting when I want to avoid such diminutive confrontations and I am a hard person to miss. No hiding behind a fence pole for me to remain unseen! But, then I do not need much more than a casual inquiry to kick start my mouth if I have already had my coffee! Just sayin'!

This is an excellent poem. I only answer questions like that truthfully when I truly believe that the other person cares- good job.

This is the dreaded small-talk that I try to avoid in the street. Im no good at it and I have noticed too how fake it all is. Brilliant observational piece KJ.

Enjoyed this creative piece! Very truthful of the ambiguous ways...of so many of us!
Interesting insight!

Form over function. Used to bother me as well, sometimes I'd be truthful and of course, that got me mildly negative responses LOL It's culture, and I think maybe even universally human to begin an encounter with someone by inquiring how they are doing. It doesn't bother me anymore, old age wears you down I think.

I often think about these things.. Yes they ask how I am and I am not at all well but I say "Just fine and you" thought provoking. thank you for the rr's , xo Rose
