Dusty Feathers

Dusty Feathers

A Poem by KeelyJane

I took a flight within myself tonight; a glide of introspection
Ask a broken bird "why the cage?'
Will he reply, "For my protection"?

I put myself inside a lie
to save me from myself

Not one dream have I gone after; not one star have I claimed

Covered in doubt, I never open my arms; never welcome an efforts wings

Like broken bones I crumble; expected to carry my weight
Nothing is heavier than the fear of falling; catching yourself too late

Nothing good will ever come of me
if I leave a dusty feather to fly
Even those that fall so gracefully
reach the ground before the sky

I have fallen.

depths of despair. succinctly placed into lovely verse. ironic, isn't it? i always love this type of write. the duality of humanity is my favorite oxy moron.....we are singular minded and doomed to fail unless we are singular minded and determined to win. excellent poem!

This is a good style for you, so try it a bit more, there's quite a lot in this well put together piece that leads the readers eye along each line.

Regardless of the style you choose, your elegant beauty shines through.

In this poem, I see how tempted we are to lock ourselves in little cages or boxes so that we can be what society defines us as--it is only breaking out and braving that freefall that gives us the freedom to truly be...

Namaste

I love the structure of this poem. And I absolutely love the poem itself, the words you used, the lines... very emotional. I love the feeling in this writing. I don't think I can choose a part in this I like most, it's all wonderful really. Enjoyed, a lot.

To say, the piece was wonderful and a little dark. It's hard to get a good piece from experimenting with a different style than the one you're used to.

I want to start by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed this piece, because not another way to begin comes to mind.
"I have fallen" those words could be settling at the bottom of the ocean,
powerful ending.

but the whole piece was dynamic and written with a tangible weight,
so what was powerful to stand, fell with momentum on those last words.

I bow.

I cannot even begin to express how touching this poem is to me. I cannot even explain to you why really. It was one of those moments where I started reading and instantly wanted to weep. Like I was meant to read this poem for some reason. What a piece of art. Beautifully written. Inspiring. Thank you for sharing so much

Truly a beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing. I agree..."Nothing is heavier than the fear of falling." Sigh.

This is brilliant ~~~ loved the whole poem - but the last stanza pull at my heartstrings.
Wonderful read.
