Fatherless

Fatherless

A Poem by KeelyJane
"

I'm not sure where this poem came from. Its not a personal poem. I don't know what inspired it. I just wrote it out of nowhere. I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it.... very strange.

"

When I was four my daddy left, I don't remember much

I only remember who replaced him and what he liked to touch

When I was eight my sister was born, her daddy loved only her

For some reason I've blocked out the memories of the abuse that would occur

When I was twelve I did drugs, I thought it'd be okay

Since I'd watched my mother and her friends do them everyday

When I was fifteen I got a job, I was turning tricks

The money was just enough to pay for my daily fix

When I was eighteen, 9 months along, a baby boy due any day

I tried finding his daddy but there was just no way

When I was twenty one, charged with felony possession

Child abuse, Endangerment plus a diagnosis: Severe Depression

When I was twenty four, I overdosed; I tried to die

I was revived and and hospitalized, left asking myself why

All the things I wanted for twenty four years I've never had

Maybe things would have been better for me if I'd only knew my dad

Oh! Keely....I feel this is one of your best writing so far. Though you are unaware of its origin but this for sure the story of the girl in the poem is the story of many. We can consider that you have devoted it those parent-less, fatherless children or for those who suffer child abuse. Just a sperm cannot make a person father. Parenting is a difficult process which needs complete devotion. Even mother plays a vital role here. Guidance of parents is very important in shaping up character of the child. I really thank you Keely for writing on behalf of all those children who have been deprived of parent's LOVE. May these days not come on any child in this world.

Hi Keeley,
Interesting to describe such a terrible upbringing. It sort of lost rhythm from eighteen. 'only knew my dad' should be 'only known my dad'

Fatherless children are the number one problem in our society today. Like lost souls they wander through life searching for a way to fill the void. You expressed this in a blunt and powerful way... awesome read Keely!!
