Speak

Speak

A Poem by KeelyJane

I am screaming on the inside.

My voice raspy and distorted; unheard.

Every third or fourth word cracks and fades,

disappearing into my breath.

My range inconsistent; vocal chords all out of tune.

I am crying my heart out,

pouring words into my head.

They've manifested into more than just pain.

They've become what tortures me,

captive feeling in my brain

My thoughts are bleeding.

My mouth closed, lips pressed, tongue at rest.

Why can't I express all the emotion I'm hoarding?

What am I afraid of?

What is there to lose?

...just my mind.

I am chock full of unspoken; a dissertation of my feelings.

Slowly seeping.

Sporadic episodes; irrational breakdowns; frequent down lows.

The remedy at my fingertips; on the tip of my tongue.

Over and over I tell myself

speak.

I really like this, it perfectly describes not being able to talk when crying which in my opinion is the worst feeling ever. good job! :)

Silence is often a protection from confronting and acknowledging our pain. Very insightful poem Keely.

All too often we remain silent when even the sound of our own voice would make things that much better. Very cool.

We speak a lot when its not necessary but clam up when really have to stand up for our core values an beliefs. Thats the reason for the frustrations and the impotent rage simmering within. Even nervous breakdowns. Moral of the story, speak when you have to. Dont hold back. You poem is very thoughtful and well written. Thanks!

Sounds like depression. As if no one will listen or give you the time.

Trapped emotions and words seem to be prevalent when we're feeling down on ourselves, I guess that's why we turn to poetry at times, it's a safe haven for our thoughts, nicely pen'd Keely.

Now this is a good piece Keely. It has vigour, emotion, passion and flow. And it is not constrained by rhyme (although you sneaked a rhyme in there-lol).
One suggestion. Change 'frequent down lows' to 'frequent low downs'

Anger does create a safety of silence if we are lucky. Sometimes words spoke in anger can do more damage than help. I like the feel of anger and frustration in the poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.
