A Poem by Victoria Preston

With arms outstretched and a smile on her lips
She welcomes his head to her breasts.
He nuzzles her neck and strokes down her spine
And, to the sound of her heartbeat, he rests.

With passions now spent, and sleep ever closer,
Their bodies entwined on her bed,
He whispers his love, soft, into her ear
And alleviates all of her dread.

The men in her past were violent and cold,
Only taking with no thought of giving.
This man by her side, truly warm and secure,
Makes her heart feel as if now it is living.

Her spirit was broken by harsh words and deeds,
Her soul had cried out for its mate.
Now, here in the half light, a smile on her lips,
Her mind wanders from feelings of hate.

He kisses her lips and caresses her neck,
Her body responds to his touch.
The song in her heart and the joy in her eyes
Let him know he is loved, very much.

In sleep he is there, now a voice on the breeze
Where he carries her over the sea,
And, lost in his love, she relaxes at last
And allows her heart to be finally free.

Excellent visualization, the narrative flows from solution, reveals the underlying issue, and back to resolution. Comfortable use of rhyme. Meter could be adjusted, but as a whole, the poem works very well
