The Resonance of Eternity

The Resonance of Eternity

A Poem by Victoria Preston

Dark clouds gather, moving hastily across a liquid sky.
No room for sentiment as they converge in anger,
Billowing thickly, black as night.
Echoing the despair that lies within.

Lightning speeding through the satanic scene,
The scent of sulphur filling the air.
Crashing thunderclaps breaking the monotonous silence
As they foretell of the desolation to come.

A moment of calm, the triumphant sound of a heartbeat,
Audible now, across endless eons.
The sweetest of sighs windswept on the breeze,
The resonance of an eternity of memories.

A smile that once played on moistened lips
Vanishes, now, with the darkening of the skies.
The realisation of the beauty that was here,
Devastated now by her own trembling hand.

Hair billowing, tears all but forgotten,
Arms outstretched, pleading to the sky.
A final chance to atone for her evils,
To chase the last clouds from this unholy place.

His voice comes softly, on wings of angels
His fingers gently stroking her salted cheek.
His forgiveness shall not be forthcoming
She will walk as in death for all the days to come.
