God

God

A Poem by Victoria Preston

"God?
Is that you?"
Eyes darting from side to side
Ears turning to the slightest sound

"God?
Can you hear me?"
Swallowing hard
Mouth dry with anxious fear

"God?
Can you forgive me?"
A gasp emitted in pain-soaked longing
Hands grasping at thin air

"God?
Will this pain kill me?"
Fear subsides
Calmness caresses like a parent

"God?
Did you know that I loved you?"
