Addiction

Addiction

A Poem by Victoria Preston

With fixed gaze and trembling hands, I watch you.
My tongue slowly moistens my dry lips.
I feel the vibration of your every foot fall,
My pulse quickens and my heart skips.

Your eyes are focused intently elsewhere,
You do not see me staring after you.
I swallow hard as you move ever nearer
The hazel of your eyes is clearly in view.

I smell the sweat of your working day
And I breathe lungfuls of you in.
My eyes close slowly as my obsession feeds,
My body twitches, wanting to have you within.

The dizziness takes over and I sigh aloud;
You're close enough to touch.
I hear your breath, soft and rhythmic.
Do you know you are desired so much?

Can you sense my growing arousal
As you pass by me in the street?
Do you hear my heart beat pounding
As it's you I long to meet?

Can you see the blushing on my cheeks
As my eyes look you up and down?
My secret shyness conquers me,
As you walk, oblivious, into town.

My heartbeat starts to settle now,
As you disappear from view.
My addiction is not nicotine, nor alcohol.
My addiction is simply you.
