The Monotony of Solitude

The Monotony of Solitude

A Poem by Victoria Preston

A key turning
Door opens
Stepping inside
Switching on the light
Closing and locking the door
Hanging up coat
Walking down the hall
Footsteps echoing
Sitting on the sofa
Sliding feet out of shoes
Sighing
Dinner for one
Flicking through the channels
Leafing through a magazine
Long bath
Set alarm clock
Early night
The monotony of solitude
