Back Off!

Back Off!

A Poem by Victoria Preston

The times we shared were wonderful.
You knew how to touch me and make me your own.
But that was then and this is now,
And it's not love but resentment that's grown.

You act like I'm still yours
But that was an age ago.
You talk like you once did
And still cannot understand "No".

There is no going back for us,
No path back to the feelings we knew
Stop living in the past and move on, please.
It's another I desire - not you.

You seem to think I still want you,
Still have passion that just cannot wait.
But the truth is, you leave me stone cold now
And even friendship is turning to hate.

You need to back off and leave me
To get on with my life without you.
To be with the one who ignites me,
And whose love, I believe, is quite true.

So, try to forget me and move on.
Find another who can stand you to be near.
For it's not me that wants your hands on me,
I just hope that I'm making this clear.

I do not love you, and I doubt I did.
So step out of my life and be gone.
Because, if you were the last man on earth, today
I'd turn lesbian, or celibate - I'd prefer women or none!
