Just For Now...

Just For Now...

A Story by Bridgett

I drink deeply from the small plastic cup of water.  I must have forgotten the dryness.  Being around you makes me forget about a lot of things.  You slowly turn to look at me over your own cup, brown eyes gleaming.  I stare back, entranced, and offer a smile as I take the drink from my moist lips.  It is not crowded here and I am glad.  I feel so under-dressed compared to the flattering dresses of the other girls, but you picked this out and that's what matters to me.  You slowly pull your drink from your lips and brush the back of your hand against them, never looking away from me.  The DJ decides to slow things down.  You take your chance.  "Do you want to dance?"  My heart leaps and my answer is an immediate yes.  Smiling, you lead me to the dance floor and stop, turning toward me, and put your hands on my waist.  I drape my arms around your neck, having to reach farther than a normal person.  I'm short.  We smile at each other and sway to the rhythm, talking intermittently, but mostly just staring at each other.  I have to fight off the urge to kiss you with incredible strength.  Yes, I'm here with you.  Yes we're dancing.  Yes, you're looking at me with hungry eyes...but no.  The answer is still no.  You don't know how you feel.  You're always confused.  I'm always so sure.  I want to be sure of you.  I throw my thoughts away.  Tonight it's just me and you.  Who cares what might happen.  For now I'm yours and you are mine.  Just for now.
