The Tree

The Tree

A Poem by ExquisiteEyes

The tree stood with all its splendour

In a place that shook with thunder

It was a witness to many happenings,

But none so glorious as this

For many days it watched over the pair

Whose hearts never succumbed to fear

Until that fateful day.

Years have passed; things have changed

The tree no longer stands with all its grandeur

It’s lush green leaves have withered away

And its trunk rots away with the mark

It was a mark of their love

Made on a midsummer night

When their fearless hearts refused to believe

That all this could ever end

A child’s voice rang out one day

“Why does that man sit there everyday?”

“Which man, son?”

“That old man under the tree”.

I like trees. Trees create life and purpose for many. Thank you for sharing for outstanding poetry.

Okay, i have one suggestion, about the wording, in the beginning lines of this poem..
the line " It was a witness to many happenings," has that word "happenings." Reading out loud, makes the flow a bit bumpy. Why not try the word "events" instead of the word "happenings".
so the line would look as follows : " It was a witness to many events,"

anyway, that is just my idea. Other than that, I love this one, full rating. :) I will read more from you.

you're welcome :)
This tree showed the man's love for his lover very well. It just showed how strong love can be and how fast it can be taken away. The tree grows with life. The man grew from the love of his life. But as the man began to lose her. The tree died with what was happening around him. The tree withered, showing the man's loss. This shows a powerful symbolism. Wonderful job!

Yet that is a wonderful way to interpret as well. I can see how you wanted it to turn out that way. .. read more
often a man is regarded as strong as a tree, a relationship the same way...but in this case, once his love has gone, he withers away and the tree follows suit, yet they still cling to each other, he, like a branch on that tree...
