Chapter seven: NumbA Chapter by Uc Amalu JrFor a time he relapsed into a near coma, then crept back to a painful reality in which he alternated between passive resignation and almost suicidal despair. He even contemplated ending his ordeal by moving, but directly the thought took shape he realized how much he wanted to live . . He began to search the sky for any hint of a let up in darkness, any faint sign that dawn would in the end stab its way over the horizon. He kept his ears alert to every variation of tone in the snoring of George and Daby, reminding himself that one or other of them must eventually wake up. But night seemed never-ending and by now he had lost all count of time. His body became an angry fire of blood unable to flow, of knotted muscles unable to relax. He had not known he could stand so much unrelenting pain. His legs had become so numb that he prayed he might not move them involuntarily. © 2011 Uc Amalu JrAuthor's Note
