Wrongly Accused

Wrongly Accused

A Poem by Derek ubuntu Dunham
"

This is the first draft (written 4/24/2013)

"

Can you imagine
Sitting in a cell..
Facing life?
Or Death?

The cold steel of judgment
Cast by 12 of your peers

For those
Whose freedom was
Wrongly cut short
Because a scared
Eyewitness
Who truly believed
With every inch of his soul
That #4
Was the masked man
Who rattled his cage of
Security

Can you imagine

Being vindicated?
For the truth
To finally be told

Everybody
Is innocent in prison;
Especially
Those who actually are

For a man to emerge
And feel the air on his face
Feel the sun on his skin
Is powerful;

But to do so
Without contempt
With warmth
In his heart
With compassion
for his captors,
Is a kind of peace

I hope,
All of us
Will one day know.

The word wicked isn't used often in that way in other places. I'm from Mass too
Rad.
Wicked powerful
I dig your style

Wicked, eh? Are you from Massachusetts?
Thank you, Trish. I am glad you liked it.
For a man to emerge
And feel the air on his face
Feel the sun on his skin
Is powerful;

'But to do so
Without contempt
With warmth
In his heart
With compassion
for his captors,
Is a kind of peace'

Imagine a man freed. If he holds on to that anger and contempt, is he really? Not so easily done. I would probably wear some kind of chains forever.
