Freedom Journey

Freedom Journey

A Poem by Douglas Lyle

I
Departures increasing, radioactive
Fatherless love
     Unsold leather glove

Witness victory and dance
Upon pedestal great
     She must betake

II
Late in the day
     Forth trudged dawn
Persian night
Gracious
Ten rivers
And one hundred islands
You are the visitor
I am the chief
Together we plan mass murders
     The next religion
Some other God forgave

Dreamland

After the interview
     Freedom came
     And laughed at us
We smiled as if it
     Were death
