Conundrum

Conundrum

A Poem by Douglas Lyle

Beyond American nights
     And restless travel
There will be parties
For plastic men and homeless overlords
Upon ignored shoulders
     Stand 5 men
          And a passion for patriotism
Golden buddies become
     Sullen strangers
When it’s over
     Nothing is solved
Yet,
     Everything is allowed
It’s like winter
     On a summer leaf
Our souls
     Ravaged
     Plundered
It’s taking forever
