Below It All

Below It All

A Poem by Douglas Lyle

"

Fearfully lost in a maze
Glazed embryos
And under the night sky
     Several hidden lepers
     Stealing our key to
          True freedom
Mournful cries
     And mistaken sighs

Help me
     Free the spiders
          Of the mind
Their terrible teeth bite and gnaw
     Our thighs
We must be mistaken
     No!

Save us
We’re not what we’re supposed
     To be
