Battle Ready

Battle Ready

A Poem by Douglas Lyle

"

Claps of thunder condense
     Over the dry, barren hills
Great golden herds
     Led to their pills
The last of the tamed lions
     Quiet all the thrills
Wind catches a leaf
     That starts the mill
Visitors came and went
     Content of their fill

The sun hides behind
     The mountain and
          The rain rushes the gates

Battle ready
     War is on the horizons

Ready the catapults
Arm the warriors
Hide the children
