Anniversary of the Beast

Anniversary of the Beast

Jackals in the night,
     Prowling
Spiders on feet
     Biting and
          Gnawing

Leashed lepers and pawns
     Crowding morgues
Ten bodies in
     Autumn lawns
They burnt down
     The city

Lightning crashed
     Into parks
          And theme shows
Thunder collapsed
     And houses were
          Washed away
The gods were angry

The hunter tracked
     His prey
Wolves
Lions
Like a cat
     Sprung upon the
          New beast

He admired leopards
     And liked to fly alone
A sacred duality
     In his swoop

His eyes were as
     Arrows
Attacking
     And stinging the air

He became a symbol of power

After a short trip
And being drawn
     To a cemetery
I wondered to a house
     Where families are murdered
The thought and sound of
     Silence
Kept in check all of
     The secret desires
          To destroy an empire

Without a home
Without a family
Wandering aimlessly in the desert sun
     Skulking vultures overhead

He left his home
He left his family
Intentions of revolt
     And reckless self-indulgence

She left her home
She left her family
To find the way out
     And up

This is not my home
This is not my family
I stay under a roof
     That despises my pulse
          And breath
This is an excuse to find
     Wealth in caves
          On the shores

Filth
Pouring
Open your wounds
     Take it all in

Beneath an angry sun
A new beast climbs your back
You can’t do anything
     Let him claw

He’s coming for you
Like a dog to the bone
You have no legs
Ever since you kicked at the fire

Just one more
Open up
Take it all
     You know you like it

Your dark reasons
     Are obedient
And easily
     Thrown aside

You think that I like it
You think your pale chrome
     Hides and disfigures the truth
Thinking was never your
     Strong point

If I wasn’t so tired
I’d take him to your house
Open your gate
     And let him inside

But now I’m strapped down
     And sleeping

I am the jackal spider,
     The provider and misguider
Come with me on this quest
     Where we will never rest
Sleep now,
     We ride at dawn
