Best Friends

Best Friends

A Poem by tygernymph0425

Once we met the inevitable happened.

Two people so friendly, two people so shy.

It was only natural for us to connect,

And that connection would soon be tested.

A love grew between us two,

But was kept secret so no one knew.

Separate paths we had already taken.

Separate lives we were living.

Fate decided to intervene.

She brought our paths together

And gave us a chance.

A chance that wasn’t meant to be.

A lover’s love flashed and flared,

Burning brightly for all to see.

A lover’s love thought so right

Lost its light, lost its flame.

Apologies made, pain overcame,

Friends we were supposed to remain.

Rushed phone calls and unanswered messages

Are all that survived our friendship.

Best friends ‘til the end

Were your parting words.

Nothing was supposed to change

Between the two best friends.

Best friends we were meant to be.

Best friends we should have always remained.

A lover’s journey between us two

Was not supposed to be partaken.

A friend’s love not meant to be more.

A friend’s love we have forever lost.

Best friends in the beginning

Strangers in the end.
