MarriageA Poem by anonyMEty.celesteI'm no opponent of marriage; I just believe in the unofficial proclamation of love. (Yet, should we be restricted to one love every life we live? That's a different poem altogether.)Marriage Marriage, It is intangible, meaningless to outsiders, Only beautiful in the eyes of the experiencing. For it is only a word, A careless whisper, Uttered
upon an altar, By a veiled woman and a tuxedoed man. Marriage, It is a silent vow, An invisible chain binding two mortals, To each other’s possession. Marriage, It is a relieving prospect, For one officially belongs to the other. Marriage, It is jail with a momentary promise of
happiness. It restricts, seizes, limits the desires of
mankind; That which nature has forcibly scripted in
the invisible codes of humanity. So that every move is scrutinized, Referred to the Bible, Then shunned by all. Marriage, It is a legal, man-made representation of
humanity’s fate, To the right to bear the fruits of mankind, To the right to carry out nature’s one
task, And to the right to love. Marriage, It is one I scorn, For it is a futile attempt to ensure
faithfulness for the other, The mere skepticism of man’s honesty, The mere root of the cause for marriages
gone awry. Marriage can be many things, But this is what it is to me. © tyceleste © 2013 anonyMEty.celeste |
